Je vois que vous insistez avec raison sur l’importance de Frankenheimer notamment Gypsy moth et birdman from Alcatraz qui a été une découverte bouleversante dans mon parcours, l’un des pics émotionnels de ces dernières années.
Je n’ai pas encore vu Seconds ni le plus récent Paths to war.
J’ai été très agréablement surpris en constatant que Birdman…était l’un des films favoris de l’une de mes élèves de seconde que j’ai aussi en enseignement d’exploration cinéma!Si j’ajoute que la séance (et l’exploitation) de Lycéens au cinéma pour running on empty s’est admirablement déroulée, j’ai bien la preuve que la cinéphilie est bien vivante!!!
Et pourtant, nous sommes au fin fond de la Dordogne!

In fact it is Spencer Tracy who plays the free-thinking Clarence Darrow and Frederic March who enacts the Bible thumping William Jennings Bryan. I rather liked Gene Kelly’s take on H.L. Mencken ( that apple a nice, albeit obvious, touch) and I doubt that Kelly’s Broadway predecessor Tony Randall did the part better but here I drift into matters of opinion and it’s your blog. I couldn’t agree more about the excellence of Quine’s « Strangers… » and I think that « My Sister Eileen » is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful musicals ever made. The real life Eileen, by the way, ended up marrying ( and dying with, quite young , in an automobile accident) Nathanael West.
